This patient experienced increasing back pain over a six-week period. The MRI scan shows an infection of the intervertebral disk and the adjacent L2 and L3 vertebral bodies. Disk infection is a relatively rare condition, but can lead to severe complications if it is not diagnosed promptly. Fortunately, MRI can look for disk infection and can help diagnose other abnormalities of the lower back.
